At August's Monthly Industry Meetup — which was held on Wednesday 16th August 2023 for members of Made in Group — three business leaders from Crompton Controls, Frederick Cooper and TWP Group shared their inspiring stories with attendees.

David Chappell, Managing Director at Crompton Controls, was the first speaker at the event. David shared his invaluable insights on the world of 'Green Design' for control panels and drives. Attendees learned how sustainable design principles can lead to minimised equipment footprint, streamlined installation processes, and lower maintenance requirements, resulting in reduced installation time and costs. Featuring screen sharing with practical examples, David showcased the innovative approaches used by Crompton Controls to create environmentally-friendly solutions that not only benefit the planet but also free up capital for investments in renewable energy sources, such as solar, and contribute to other sustainable initiatives.

Jai Purewal, Operations Director at Frederick Cooper (Birmingham), next enlightened attendees regarding how rugby has become an important recruitment tool for the company. Jai spoke on the transformative power of sports in identifying and onboarding talented individuals with non-traditional backgrounds. Listeners learned of the immense potential of rugby and other sports in building a skilled and diverse manufacturing team.

To conclude the talks section of this event, TWP Group Director Phil Stanley delved into the world of e-commerce and global sales for their manufactured products. Phil took attendees on a journey of success and growth, focusing on Paterson Photographic—a manufacturer and distributor of photographic hardware. Ultimately, Phil showcases how strategic improvements in branding, websites, and manufacturing processes have opened doors for UK sales, as well as opportunities to expand into European and American markets. With the resurgence of traditional darkroom products and the development of their studio lighting range, TWP Group showcases the best of British manufacturing and its ability to compete on a global scale.

Following these thought-provoking talks, attendees engaged in interactive virtual roundtable sessions with their fellow industry leaders, on the topics of their choice, in order to share and learn the latest best practice within UK industry.
